- Comments: This aircraft created a so-called rainbow contrail. Rainbow contrails are aerodynamic contrails instead of exhaust contrails. An aerodynamic contrail is formed by the reduction of air pressure as the air moves over the wing of an aircraft. As a result, the temperature of the air falls which causes small drops of water to condense and possibly even freeze. These drops increase in size as more and more water condenses on them. Eventually the different sized drops will affect different wavelengths of light, creating the rainbow effect.
